The newly launched rapid rail service connecting Meerut with the National Capital Region has received an overwhelming response from commuters. On its first full day of commercial operations, the corridor recorded more than 1 lakh passengers, marking a strong start for the high-speed regional transit system.
The service is part of the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor, developed and operated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The project aims to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut while offering a modern, reliable, and comfortable commuting option.
Officials stated that passenger turnout exceeded expectations, especially during peak morning and evening hours. Office-goers, students, and business travelers were among the largest groups using the service. The rapid rail system is designed to provide faster connectivity compared to road travel, where congestion often leads to long delays.
The trains are equipped with modern amenities such as air-conditioned coaches, advanced safety systems, CCTV surveillance, and digital ticketing facilities. Clean stations, automated fare collection gates, and real-time passenger information systems have also contributed to a smooth travel experience.
Transport experts believe the strong response highlights the growing demand for efficient public transportation in the NCR region. The corridor is expected to ease traffic congestion on highways, reduce vehicular pollution, and support regional economic growth by improving connectivity.
With such an encouraging beginning, authorities are optimistic that daily ridership will continue to rise in the coming weeks. The successful launch of the Meerut rapid rail service is being seen as a major step toward strengthening India’s regional transit infrastructure and setting a model for future high-speed corridors across the country.
