Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Defends Two-Language Policy, Calls for Fairer Medical Admission System

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay used his address in the State Assembly to strongly defend the state’s two-language policy and reiterate his government’s opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), arguing that the current admission system should provide equal opportunities to students from all backgrounds.

Speaking during the Assembly session, the Chief Minister said that education should be accessible and inclusive, particularly for students from rural areas and economically weaker sections. He emphasized that a single entrance examination should not become the sole measure of a student’s academic ability or future prospects.

According to Vijay, the state’s long-standing position has been to promote a system that evaluates students through a broader academic framework. He stated that many talented students may face disadvantages in highly competitive entrance examinations, especially those who do not have access to expensive coaching facilities or advanced educational resources.

The Chief Minister also reaffirmed Tamil Nadu’s commitment to its two-language policy, which prioritizes Tamil and English in the state’s education system. He said the policy has successfully balanced the preservation of Tamil culture and language while enabling students to compete in higher education and global employment opportunities through English proficiency.

Vijay stressed that the state respects linguistic diversity and believes that students should have the freedom to learn and grow in an educational environment that reflects their cultural identity and practical needs. He described Tamil as an integral part of the state’s heritage and assured that its promotion would remain a key priority of his administration.

Addressing political criticism, the Chief Minister said his government was formed through the trust and support of the people. He noted that the journey to public office involved numerous challenges, but his administration remains focused on governance, public welfare and long-term development.

He further stated that his government’s policies are aimed at benefiting every family in Tamil Nadu rather than serving the interests of a select few. Education, healthcare, employment generation and social welfare, he said, will continue to remain at the centre of the government’s agenda.

Political observers believe that Vijay’s remarks reflect his administration’s broader vision for education and governance in the state. The issues of medical admissions, language policy and educational equality are expected to remain important topics of discussion in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape in the coming months.
