Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have temporarily suspended two of India’s most significant annual pilgrimages following forecasts of widespread rainfall across the region. Officials said the precautionary move aims to protect thousands of devotees expected to travel through mountainous routes that could become hazardous during adverse weather.
The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate to widespread rainfall over several parts of Jammu and Kashmir between July 19 and July 23, raising concerns about landslides, slippery roads, flash floods, and reduced visibility in hilly areas.
Safety Takes Priority
Officials emphasized that the temporary suspension is purely a preventive measure designed to avoid any untoward incidents during the period of unfavorable weather.
Pilgrims have been advised to postpone their travel plans until authorities complete safety inspections and issue fresh guidelines regarding the reopening of the pilgrimage routes.
