The flood situation in Assam remained critical as the death toll from this year’s floods reached 100, after two more people reportedly drowned in the past 24 hours. The latest fatalities were reported from Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Although the number of affected people has declined slightly compared with the previous day, thousands of families continue to face difficulties in several parts of the state. Authorities are maintaining a close watch on the situation and continuing relief operations in the affected areas.
Seven Districts Still Affected
According to the latest official assessment, more than 1.37 lakh people are currently affected by flooding across seven districts — Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Sivasagar.
Golaghat remains the worst-affected district, with nearly 70,000 residents impacted by the floods. Sivasagar follows with around 40,000 affected people, while more than 16,000 people in Jorhat are facing the impact of the flooding.
The administration is monitoring vulnerable areas and taking steps to provide assistance to families affected by rising water levels.
More Than 49,000 People Staying in Relief Camps
Authorities have established 125 relief camps and relief distribution centres across six districts to support people displaced by the floods.
Around 49,061 people are currently staying in these relief facilities, where essential assistance is being provided. Relief teams are also working to deliver necessary supplies to people who remain in affected areas.
The administration has been focusing on ensuring access to food, drinking water and other essential services for displaced residents.
Situation Shows Slight Improvement
The overall flood situation has shown a modest improvement compared with Saturday. Nearly 1.5 lakh people across eight districts were affected on the previous day.
Despite the decline in the number of affected people, officials continue to monitor the situation closely because changing weather conditions and water levels could affect low-lying areas.
Relief Operations Continue
District administrations and disaster management teams remain engaged in relief and rescue operations. Authorities are assessing the requirements of affected communities and providing assistance based on local conditions.
The repeated flooding has disrupted normal life in several parts of Assam, forcing many families to move to safer locations. Roads, agricultural activities and other daily services have also been affected in some areas.
