It is suspected that some corporate houses controlling Odisha politics and their backers are behind the possible formation of Mohammed Moquim’s regional party. However, there is talk that there will be no such major political movement before the Rajya Sabha elections.
Internal turmoil is now intensifying in the two major opposition parties in the state, BJD and Congress. After the expulsion of senior Congress leader Mohammed Mohammed Moquim from the party, the possibility of forming a new regional political party is increasing, while disgruntled leaders in BJD are also in search of a similar platform. It is suspected that some corporate houses controlling Odisha politics and their backers are behind Mohammed Moquim’s possible regional party. However, with the Rajya Sabha elections ahead, political analysts have expressed their opinion that no such major political movement is likely to take place in Odisha before April.
The Congress is now divided into two after the expulsion of senior leader Mohammed Mohammed Moquim for anti-party activities. Senior Congress leaders Niranjan Patnaik, Narasingh Mishra and Sarat Kumar Raut have strongly condemned such actions and praised Mohammed Moquim’s organizational skills. Former PCC president Jaydev Jena also joined these three senior leaders today. He praised Mohammed Moquim’s skills but also disliked his letter writing. However, after Bhakta Das became the PCC president, the new groups and equations created in the party are gradually becoming more intense.
There is talk that Mohammed Moquim will form a new regional party. Disgruntled leaders of Congress and BJD will join this regional party. But according to the discussions going on in the political
corridors, the mentality of the disgruntled leaders of BJD will not match those who are behind the possible formation of Mohammed Moquim’s party. The party leaders who are currently unhappy by opposing the undeclared everything of BJD are unlikely to join that sponsored platform and shoot themselves in the foot. Of course, there is a lot of discussion that the disgruntled leaders of Congress will get a political platform under Mohammed Moquim’s leadership. It is clear from Bhakta Das’ statement that Mohammed Moquim is not working alone. He is getting the support of some powerful group or external political force. If the BJP supports him, then it will be even more fatal for the Congress and will also complicate Odisha politics.
However, the formation of Mohammed Moquim’s proposed party amidst the growing infighting between the leaders of the two opposition parties, the BJD and the Congress, cannot be ruled out as it could pose a major political challenge for both the BJD and the Congress.
