Basant Panchami, one of the most auspicious festivals in the Hindu calendar, was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across India on Wednesday. Basant Panchami usually falls in the Hindu month of Magha and is considered highly favorable for starting new ventures, educational activities and creative pursuits. On this occasion, people wake up early, wear yellow attire, and offer yellow flowers, sweets and fruits to Goddess Saraswati. Across schools and colleges, Saraswati Puja was organized with great reverence. In several parts of North India, especially in Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, farmers welcomed the season by celebrating the festival in mustard fields. In eastern India, particularly in West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar, Basant Panchami is celebrated as Saraswati Puja with elaborate decorations and community participation. Young children are often introduced to education on this day through a traditional ceremony known as Vidyarambh.
