Former US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that his administration played a crucial role in preventing a possible war between India and Pakistan during his tenure. Speaking at a public event, Trump said tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours were extremely high at the time and could have escalated into a serious military conflict.
According to Trump, diplomatic engagement and behind-the-scenes efforts by the United States helped defuse the situation and bring calm to the region. He stated that timely communication and pressure were key factors in preventing the crisis from worsening.
India, however, has consistently maintained that all issues with Pakistan are addressed bilaterally and without the involvement of any third party. New Delhi has earlier rejected similar claims, reiterating that its foreign policy decisions are made independently.
Political analysts note that Trump has frequently highlighted his role in global conflict prevention while discussing his foreign policy record. In the past, his statements on South Asia, including references to Kashmir, have drawn sharp responses from Indian officials.
Pakistan, on the other hand, has often welcomed international mediation in its disputes with India, though India has firmly opposed such involvement. The contrasting positions of the two countries remain unchanged despite repeated international commentary.
Trump’s renewed assertion has once again sparked debate in diplomatic and political circles, though no official confirmation or policy shift has emerged from the Indian side following his remarks.
