Jalandhar: Punjab politics was shaken on Monday after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead while sitting inside his car in Jalandhar. The incident triggered panic in the area and raised fresh concerns over law and order in the state.
According to preliminary information, the attack took place when Oberoi was inside his vehicle. Unknown assailants allegedly opened fire at close range and fled the spot soon after the shooting. Local residents alerted the police, who rushed to the scene and took the injured leader to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Senior police officials reached the location and began an investigation. The area was cordoned off, and forensic teams were deployed to collect evidence. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify the attackers and trace their escape route.
Police officials said the motive behind the killing is not yet clear. Initial investigations are exploring multiple angles, including personal rivalry and political enmity. No arrests have been made so far.
AAP leaders expressed shock over the incident and demanded swift action. Party members called for strict punishment for those responsible and urged the government to ensure the safety of political workers.
The killing has once again put the spotlight on rising crime incidents in Punjab, especially targeted attacks. Authorities have assured that all efforts are being made to solve the case at the earliest.
