At least 33 people lost their lives after powerful storms, heavy rain, and lightning strikes battered several districts of Uttar Pradesh, causing widespread destruction and disrupting normal life. The sudden change in weather led to the collapse of houses, uprooting of trees, damage to electricity infrastructure, and multiple fatal accidents across the state.
According to officials, the worst-hit districts include Bhadohi, Fatehpur, Budaun, Chandauli, and Sonbhadra. Rescue and relief teams have been deployed in the affected areas as authorities work to restore normalcy and assist families impacted by the disaster.
Bhadohi reported the highest number of casualties, with 16 deaths recorded in separate storm-related incidents. Strong winds uprooted trees and electricity poles, while several mud houses and temporary structures collapsed under the impact of the storm. Local officials said communication services were also affected in some areas due to damage to mobile towers and power lines, creating difficulties for rescue teams during the initial hours.
In Fatehpur district, nine people died and several others were injured after walls and trees collapsed during the storm. Many of the incidents occurred in rural areas where families were caught off guard by the sudden weather conditions. Authorities said injured persons were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Budaun district also witnessed tragic incidents linked to the severe weather. In one village, two young girls died after a mud wall collapsed on them while they had taken shelter from the storm inside a hut. Two women accompanying them suffered serious injuries and are undergoing treatment. In another incident, a woman died after a large tree fell on a structure where villagers had gathered for safety during the heavy winds.
A truck driver also lost his life after a tree crashed onto his vehicle during the storm. Several roads in affected districts were blocked because of fallen trees, slowing down rescue operations and traffic movement.
In Chandauli and Sonbhadra districts, deaths were reported due to collapsing walls and falling trees. Local administrations have started damage assessment surveys and are identifying families affected by the disaster.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure immediate relief to victims. He instructed district administrations to complete compensation procedures quickly and warned that negligence in relief operations would not be tolerated.
The state government has also asked revenue and agriculture departments to assess crop and property losses caused by the storm and rainfall. Farmers in several districts have reported damage to standing crops, increasing concerns over financial losses in rural areas.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted the possibility of more rain and thunderstorms in some parts of the state over the coming days. Authorities have advised people to remain indoors during severe weather conditions and avoid standing near weak structures, trees, and electric poles.
The incident has once again highlighted how extreme weather events are becoming a major challenge for both urban and rural populations. With changing climate patterns leading to sudden storms and heavy rainfall, experts believe preparedness and stronger disaster management systems will become increasingly important in the future.
