For much of June, large parts of the country experienced below-normal rainfall, forcing farmers to delay sowing operations and leaving millions of people struggling with soaring temperatures and high humidity. The delayed arrival of the monsoon also put pressure on water resources in several regions, increasing concerns over agricultural productivity and drinking water supplies.
Meteorologists now believe that weather conditions have become significantly more favorable. Moisture-rich winds from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are feeding into northern India, creating the ideal environment for sustained rainfall.
