New Delhi:
Amid concerns among farmers over possible international trade agreements, Amul’s top leadership has reassured that India will not take any decision that harms the agricultural and dairy sector. The Amul chief stated that trade negotiations are a balanced process and are carried out keeping farmers’ welfare at the center.
He emphasized that trade talks are never one-sided and involve careful evaluation of both opportunities and risks. According to him, the interests of millions of farmers linked to the dairy sector are a key consideration before finalizing any agreement with foreign partners.
The Amul chief highlighted that India’s dairy industry is built on a strong cooperative model, where farmers are direct stakeholders. This system ensures fair pricing, stable income, and long-term sustainability for producers. Any global trade decision, he said, is examined in terms of its impact on domestic production, pricing, and farmers’ livelihoods.
He also noted that India’s dairy sector has grown significantly over the years and is capable of competing globally if policies remain balanced and farmer-friendly. Therefore, fears about sudden market disruptions due to trade agreements are largely misplaced.
Reiterating Amul’s commitment, he said continuous dialogue is maintained with policymakers and farmer groups to ensure transparency. “The goal is to strike a balance between global engagement and protecting domestic farmers,” he added, assuring that national and farmer interests will remain a priority in all trade-related decisions.
