In a move aimed at strengthening patriotic values, authorities have issued directions that the national song “Vande Mataram” will be played before the National Anthem “Jana Gana Mana” at government events and in educational institutions across the country.
According to the new protocol, schools, colleges, and government departments are expected to include Vande Mataram as part of official ceremonies, assemblies, and public functions. The initiative is intended to deepen awareness of the country’s freedom struggle and cultural heritage among citizens, especially students.
Officials said that Vande Mataram holds a special place in India’s history, having inspired generations during the independence movement. Playing it before the National Anthem is seen as a symbolic step to honor that legacy while continuing to uphold respect for Jana Gana Mana, which remains the supreme national anthem.
Education departments have been advised to ensure smooth implementation of the directive without disrupting existing routines. Schools may incorporate the change during morning assemblies and special occasions, while government offices will follow it during formal programs and commemorative events.
Authorities also clarified that the dignity and protocol of the National Anthem will remain unchanged. The new arrangement is meant to complement, not replace, existing traditions associated with national observances.
The move has sparked discussions in academic and cultural circles, with supporters calling it a step toward reinforcing national pride and awareness among the youth.
